Being is Knowing
BFA Thesis - 2024
Being is Knowing is a body of work on coping with spoken and unspoken familial truths through imagery. Whispers are shared across the dinner table, topics of incest, infidelity, drug use, and more. The inability to process my loved ones experiencing the unimaginable tugs at my sleeve, begging to be noticed. This work functions as both a record of current and past efforts to comprehend, and as a means for me to confront the persistent upset echoing in my mind. Photography has become my refuge, a way to dissect the convulsions of shared family history, and the weight of holding secrets. Amidst the chaos of familial revelations and the struggle to reconcile truth, Being is Knowing emerges as a poignant journey of introspection and coping for myself and my family, a hopeful act of closure as we recognize our bloodline.
